About The Position

We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Clinical Assistant / Eye Care Technician to join our ophthalmology team. In this role, you will work directly with patients and providers to support high-quality eye care by gathering patient information, performing basic clinical testing, documenting medical histories, and assisting with patient flow. Previous healthcare or direct patient care experience is preferred, but ophthalmology experience is not required. We provide comprehensive on-the-job training for motivated candidates who are eager to learn a new specialty and deliver exceptional patient care. No ophthalmology experience? No problem. We welcome candidates with healthcare or direct patient care experience and provide comprehensive training in ophthalmic testing, procedures, and patient care. Medical Assistants, CNAs, EMTs, Patient Care Technicians, Phlebotomists, and other healthcare professionals are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous experience in a healthcare, clinical, patient care, medical assistant, CNA, EMT, PCT, or similar role preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathetic personality with concern for patients’ needs.
  • Strong organization with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college preferred.
  • Ophthalmic or Optometric experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients and explain office procedures, tests, and what to expect during their visit.
  • Obtain and document patient medical histories, medications, allergies, and chief concerns.
  • Perform clinical testing and accurately document patient information in the medical record.
  • Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and patient care activities.
  • Support ophthalmic imaging and diagnostic testing as needed.
  • Maintain high standards of patient service, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Follow infection control, safety, and sterile processing protocols.
  • Escort patients from the waiting area to exam and testing rooms.
  • Facilitate efficient patient flow throughout the clinic and communicate delays or scheduling changes as needed.
  • Help ensure patients remain informed and comfortable throughout their visit.
  • Collaborate with providers, technicians, and front desk staff to support a positive patient experience.
  • Prepare exam and procedure rooms for patient visits.
  • Perform routine cleaning, stocking, and maintenance of clinical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and report ongoing concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Assist with sterilization and proper storage of instruments according to office protocols.
  • Maintain exam room supplies and inventory levels.
  • Follow established clinical and administrative procedures and seek guidance when needed.
  • Complete assigned training and demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
