About The Position

The College of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor (12 Months). This role involves implementing the College's philosophy, curriculum, program outcomes, and course objectives through expert teaching. The successful candidate will assume responsibility for all autonomous aspects of individual teaching assignments, utilize innovative, active learning strategies, and plan clinical and simulation experiences. They will provide direct supervision and evaluation of students delivering nursing care, serve as an Academic Advisor, and evaluate student performance with documented feedback. Responsibilities also include grading assignments in a timely manner, being available for student remediation, and maintaining current knowledge of agency/clinical policies. Additionally, the role involves directing student research for advanced academic degrees, mentoring students in evidence-based research and scholarship, conducting research, publishing findings, and developing a program of research.

Requirements

  • Doctoral Degree in Nursing or equivalent.
  • New York State Nurse Practitioner and/or Registered Nurse Licensure.
  • 4+ years of teaching experience in academia.
  • 3-5 years of clinical practice experience.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Evidence of current scholarship.
  • Or, a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and training.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD or EdD teaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plan clinical and simulation experiences for and provides direct supervision and evaluation of students delivering nursing care, as needed.
  • Serve as Academic Advisor for students.
  • Evaluate and provide documented feedback on student's performance.
  • Grade homework, quizzes, tests, lab assignments, clinical paperwork and other written work in a timely manner.
  • Be available for remediation of students as required or needed.
  • Orient and maintain current knowledge related to agency/clinical policies and procedures.
  • Direct research of students working for advanced academic degrees.
  • Mentor students in evidence-based research and scholarship.
  • Conduct research and publishes findings in professional journals.
  • Develop a program of research.
