About The Position

This position is for an inpatient Hospital Medicine faculty physician for Emory University Hospital Midtown, Emory Decatur Hospital. You will be expected to devote between 1% and 25% of your total professional effort to scholarly activities. In keeping with the School of Medicine Guidelines for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure, you are expected to participate in scholarship, which may include authorship of manuscripts, participation in research studies, abstract presentations, professional blogs, and other scholarly activities. You will be expected to devote between 1% and 25% of your total professional effort to teaching. In keeping with the School of Medicine Guidelines for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure, you are expected to participate in teaching, which may include occasional lectures, small group and bedside teaching, preceptorship, and mentorship. You will be expected to devote more than 75% of your total professional effort to professional service. You are expected to perform the following duties as an inpatient Hospital Medicine physician on professional service: history and physical examinations of patients being admitted to the hospital; assessing the acuity of hospitalized patients and ensuring a proper level of care; bedside procedures as needed and credentialed for; consultations services for specialty provider partners; order consultations from specialty provider partners; initiating contact with primary care providers and teams in the outpatient setting in order to ensure appropriate continuity of care. On some months, you may be working with trainees, which may include allied health professionals. Your clinical schedule will be in accordance with internal Division policy and procedures and according to your actual clinical effort.

Requirements

  • MD or equivalent degree.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine.
  • Licensure to practice medicine in the state of Georgia.
  • Ability to obtain Emory University medical staff privileges.
  • Commitment to scholarly activity.
  • Commitment to teaching.
  • Commitment to professional service in inpatient hospital medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Devote between 1% and 25% of total professional effort to scholarly activities, which may include authorship of manuscripts, participation in research studies, abstract presentations, professional blogs, and other scholarly activities.

  • Order consultations from specialty provider partners.
  • Initiate contact with primary care providers and teams in the outpatient setting to ensure appropriate continuity of care.
  • Work with trainees, which may include allied health professionals, on some months.
  • Adhere to clinical schedule in accordance with internal Division policy and procedures and according to actual clinical effort.
