About The Position

Under general supervision from the Department Chair, Nursing, the incumbent teaches courses as scheduled, cultivates a healthy teacher-student relationship, and engages the students in active learning. The incumbent will make recommendations regarding curriculum changes, text selection, and content revision. The faculty will supervise students in the clinical area and simulation labs.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in nursing.
  • Candidate must show evidence of teaching abilities and maintaining current knowledge, clinical expertise, and safety in the subject areas of teaching responsibility.
  • Must meet accrediting body criteria to teach in Associate Degree Nursing Program.
  • Registered Nurse with current Texas license with no stipulations.

  • Collaborate with nursing faculty to identify at risk students early in order to facilitate timely interventions and work together to develop strategies for improved student learning.
  • Providing personalized academic guidance, study skills development, and targeted tutoring for students struggling with course material.
  • Participates in new student orientation, as applicable.
  • Coordinates and/or conducts individual and group study sessions/workshops
  • Makes referrals for academic support services including the Writing Center, Math tutorial Lab, or for accommodations.
  • Makes referrals to Financial Aid and the Circle of Support for non-academic barriers to success.
  • Tracking student progress, identifying trends, and using data to inform program improvements aimed at increasing student success.
  • Attends departmental and committee meetings and supports the faculty in developing departmental policies regarding student success.
  • Providing resources and guidance to help students prepare for the NCLEX licensing exam.
  • Implementing strategies to encourage student engagement, foster a positive learning environment, and address potential barriers to graduation.
  • Perform job-related duties as assigned.
  • Display empathy and positive regard for others in written, verbal and non-verbal communications.
  • Work with colleagues and students by practicing punctuality, respect for deadlines, collaborative problem solving, and honest communication.
  • Be friendly and collegial with co-workers, faculty, students, staff, and visitors to the campus.
