About The Position

Essentia Health's Clinical Assistant Apprenticeship Program offers a pathway to become certified through the National Healthcareer Association's Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification program. Apprentices combine on-the-job training with educational coursework and are paired with mentors or preceptors to learn the full range of Clinical Assistant duties, with support from educational instructors and other staff. The program prepares apprentices for the CCMA certification exam, for which work experience is recognized as a qualification.

During on-the-job training, apprentices work at an entry-level scope and assist registered nurses, physicians, and other providers with direct patient care for patients ranging from newborns to older adults. The positions are scheduled 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some departments offer scheduling flexibility of 32 to 40 hours per week. The role is based at Baxter Clinic.

Requirements

• Be enrolled in the Med Certs training program.
• Hold Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification or be able to obtain it within three months.
• Obtain National Healthcareer Association Board CCMA certification within six months of completing the education program.

Responsibilities

• Assist registered nurses, physicians, and other providers with direct patient care.
• Learn all facets of Clinical Assistant duties through on-the-job training with mentors or preceptors.
• Review and study classroom materials with support from educational instructors and staff.
