About The Position

The Clinical and Youth Development Supervisor provides direct supervision, mentorship, and clinical oversight to youth and young adult volunteers on the YouthLine help, support, and crisis line. This role also supports the development and delivery of clinical training, implements quality assurance practices, and fosters a safe, inclusive environment that supports youth growth and wellbeing. The Supervisor balances real-time supervision with direct crisis line work, ensuring consistent, compassionate, and clinically sound support for youth in crisis while supporting best practices in youth development. The Supervisor will support Youth Development functions, including volunteer recruitment, training, oversight, scheduling, and continuing education. Additionally, this position will support YouthLine Education and Outreach initiatives by delivering mental health lessons in classrooms and staffing community events to increase YouthLine’s presence in the local community.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in a related social sciences field (required)
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with youth in a crisis, mentorship, or mental health setting
  • Crisis intervention training (ASIST, safeTALK, or YMHFA preferred)
  • Delivering presentations in a work or school setting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to mentor youth with compassion and maintain professional boundaries
  • High cultural competency and commitment to inclusive, trauma-informed care
  • Ability to assess and manage high-risk situations under pressure
  • Proficient in database and Microsoft Office applications
  • This position requires the ability to regularly travel throughout Maui County to lead outreach events in schools and communities as well as meet with community partners.
  • This position often drives YouthLine volunteers to outreach events.
  • This position will require some flexibility in work schedule in order to meet outreach needs and will include working some evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate the culture of Lines for Life by modeling behavior that supports the goals and philosophies of Lines for Life and the YouthLine.
  • Supervise and mentor YouthLine volunteers answering calls, texts, and chats during scheduled shifts, supporting the goals and purpose of YouthLine and Lines for Life.
  • Maintain and follow YouthLine contact procedures and follow all safety protocols.
  • Provide real-time support, coaching, and clinical guidance to volunteers and interns while taking contacts.
  • Establish rapport with YouthLine volunteers and contacts, and act as a resource of knowledge and systems use for volunteers.
  • Identify and/or offer appropriate available resources that can be provided to contacts and support the efforts of YouthLine.
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages learning, resilience, and growth.
  • Collaborate with the Youth Development team to deliver ongoing mentoring and support.
  • Respond to high-acuity contacts when they exceed the scope of youth volunteers.
  • Provide clinical judgment on the need for emergency services or protective intervention.
  • Monitor contact documentation for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to clinical expectations.
  • Complete call monitoring for each volunteer and intern at least quarterly in alignment with accreditation standards and program expectations.
  • Identify quality gaps and provide timely, constructive feedback to youth volunteers.
  • Support onboarding and training of new youth volunteers.
  • Attend required meetings (team supervision, clinical supervision, staff meetings, etc.).
  • Recruit youth and adult coaching volunteers and interns for the YouthLine through online and in-person methods to include underrepresented and underserved communities.
  • Collaborate with the Youth Development teammates in Portland and Central Oregon to screen applications.
  • Assist with coordinating the logistics of crisis intervention trainings for YouthLine volunteers (orientation, interviews, training, shadows).
  • Assist in YouthLine Peer Crisis Intervention Specialist Training (training and shadows).
  • Schedule volunteers (training, shadows, weekly shift coverage, monthly meetings, continuing education, etc.).
  • Communicate important information to volunteers in a timely manner.
  • Systematically check in with volunteers, with a focus on youth mental health and wellness. Offer support and connect with external resources as necessary (parents, therapists, schools, etc.).
  • Maintain current information for all volunteers (contact information, relevant forms, background checks, etc.).
  • Facilitate and help implement educational programming on suicide prevention, including peer-to-peer outreach and engagement efforts, where applicable.
  • Deliver presentations in Maui County middle and high schools to educate students and raise awareness about youth mental health, suicide, self injury, depression, and other sensitive subject matters.
  • Represent YouthLine through staffing tables, delivering short presentations, and speaking on panels at community events.
  • Coach and mentor interns and volunteers through interactions at outreach activities.
  • Co-facilitate the outreach portion of the YouthLine training for new volunteers and interns.
