About The Position

The Clinic Relief Veterinarian is responsible for providing high-quality medical care to the animals in the care of Michigan Humane. The Clinic Relief Veterinarian will assess, diagnose, and treat patients; as well as assess and triage urgent and emergency cases.

Requirements

A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree
Licensure in good standing to practice in the state of Michigan, including Michigan Veterinary License, Michigan Veterinary Controlled Substance License, DEA License, and Accreditation in the State of Michigan
Strong proficiency in medical knowledge and surgical skills
Possess the technical skills needed to provide a high level of care to the animals in our care.
Work independently with minimal supervision; possess good decision-making skills.
Able to handle stress and remain calm in emergency situations.
Flexible with the ability to thrive in an emotional, fast-paced work environment.
Labor intensive, must be able to stand for long periods, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, etc., and lift 50lbs without assistance.
Exemplary professionalism and communication skills - ability to show compassion to both animals and people in sensitive situations.
Strong decision-making and time-management skills

Responsibilities

Provide outstanding medical care, including, but not limited to, routine examinations, vaccinations, emergency triage and stabilizations, dental procedures, surgical procedures, euthanasia, and necessary diagnostics.
Examine, diagnose, prescribe, and treat routine outpatient cases.
Order diagnostic tests as needed, interpret results, and recommend treatment plans.
Communicate instructions to clients and provide advice concerning preventive care and other healthcare topics.
Administer and accurately monitor controlled substances.
Maintain and complete patient records.
Promote and support Michigan Humane programs and overall mission.
