About The Position

The Client Care Specialist works at Jan Peek Homeless Shelter and is expected to engage homeless individuals with dignity and respect. The position provides direct care, guidance, and supervision to shelter residents; assists with routines of daily living in a shelter setting; and fosters positive socialization and interaction among residents. The role also supports shelter safety, cleanliness, documentation, and meal and linen services.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.

Nice To Haves

• One year of experience in Human Services, preferably experience relevant to residential environments.
• Basic computer experience.
• Knowledge of alcohol, drug, and mental health issues.

Responsibilities

• Develop good relationships with residents and contribute to a positive atmosphere in the program.
• Respond to resident concerns and communicate and document issues and problems through log entries, narratives, and incident reports.
• Complete all mandated daily resident census records.
• Help ensure orderly resident entrance and exit, escort unauthorized people and disruptive clients out, and make rounds of the facility and grounds to identify safety hazards, damage, or maintenance needs.
• Identify clients at risk of self-destructive or high-risk behaviors and recognize potentially volatile situations as part of crisis intervention.
• Assist in serving prepared meals and laundering bed linens.
• Provide general cleaning and housekeeping support to custodial staff as needed to maintain safe and sanitary conditions on a 24-hour basis.
• Attend staff meetings and in-service training workshops when required.
