About The Position

The Workers’ Compensation Appeals Tribunal is an independent tribunal which hears and decides appeals from final decisions of the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB). The Tribunal is governed by the Workers’ Compensation Act of Nova Scotia and is the final level of appeal within the workers’ compensation system. You are responsible for providing a broad range of clerical support services to the Tribunal and responsible for the administration of a high volume of appeals during various stages of the appeal process.

Requirements

Four years of related clerical/administrative assistant experience
Proficient keyboarding
Dictation transcription experience
Working knowledge of case management systems
Skill and competency in computer applications (such as word processing, spreadsheets, electronic mail and calendars)
Skilled at managing electronic and hard copy filing systems
Self-motivated, detail-oriented and effective at working independently under minimal supervision to prioritize work demands and meet deadlines
A high degree of initiative, excellent organization and communication skills (both written and verbal)
Ability to effectively interact with the public in a sometimes-challenging environment

Responsibilities

Assist in the scheduling of hearings, conference calls, monitoring deadlines and requests for additional information
Transcribing and creating a variety of documents including appeal decisions and correspondence
Maintaining an established filing and case management system to ensure accuracy of appeal information
Photocopying claim file documents
Contacting appeal participants, as required
Responding to and directing incoming calls, e-mails, and inquiries
Providing front desk and telephone reception relief
