About The Position

The Clerical Assistant 3 position with the Department of Human Services offers a chance to build strong skills while supporting important work that protects children across Pennsylvania. You will play a key part in processing information that helps ensure safety and compliance. This role gives you the opportunity to make a difference while gaining valuable experience! This position supports the Commonwealth's Clearance Verification Unit by receiving, reviewing, and processing applications that help determine an individual’s eligibility to work with children. The role ensures accuracy, timeliness, and consistency in reviewing important safety information.

Requirements

  • One year as a Clerical Assistant 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of moderately complex clerical experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week after an in-office training period.
  • If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to calls and questions from the public regarding clearance requirements and procedures
  • Enter and review information from child abuse, criminal history, and related clearance applications
  • Compare and analyze applicant information across multiple state and federal systems
  • Check applicant status for child abuse findings and confirm matches with official reports
  • Evaluate criminal history results to determine consistency with state laws and eligibility rules
  • Communicate with applicants to request needed information and provide updates on inquiries
