Cleaning Associate
About The Position
The Cleaning Associate is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and safe store environment, with a focus on floor care. The role includes operating floor-care equipment, cleaning floors and surfaces, and maintaining cleanliness and recovery standards throughout the store. The associate follows operational, merchandise, health and safety, and loss prevention standards, and is cross-trained to support multiple store areas and business needs. The position is located at TJ Maxx Store 1536 in San Antonio, Texas. Starting pay is USD $13.00 to $13.50 per hour; actual starting pay depends on relevant skills, qualifications, and experience.
Requirements
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to support business needs.
- Availability at 5 a.m. Monday through Sunday.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Physical stamina to perform cleaning tasks and operate a floor buffer and scrubber.
- Ability to multitask and respond appropriately to changes in direction or unexpected situations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including listening and responding appropriately.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work effectively with peers and supervisors.
- Retail customer experience preferred.

Responsibilities
- Model established customer experience practices with internal and external customers.
- Support a positive store culture through honesty, integrity, and respect.
- Maintain floor-care cleanliness standards, including operating and maintaining the scrubber and buffer.
- Clean floors through dust mopping, damp mopping, sweeping, and vacuuming; dust and spot-clean glass and windows.
- Maintain organizational, cleanliness, and recovery standards throughout the store, including the Sales Floor, Single Queue, Associate Lounge, Backroom, and Restrooms.
- Follow company health and safety policies, including refilling essential items in the Lounge, Restrooms, and Front End.
- Cross-train and work in other store areas, including the Backroom, Front End, and Sales Floor.
- Support and respond to Front End coverage needs.
- Follow merchandising philosophy and signage standards.
- Initiate and participate in store recovery as needed throughout the day.
- Follow operational and loss prevention controls, including shrink-reduction guidelines and policies.
- Communicate accurately and effectively with management and Associates.
- Follow labor laws and company policies and procedures, including meal and break-period policies.
- Participate in safety awareness and maintain a safe environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
