About The Position

Block by Block employs Ambassadors to make public spaces friendlier, safer, and cleaner for the communities they serve. The Cleaning Ambassador works visibly at street level in an assigned zone, completing cleaning tasks and engaging pedestrians and visitors with a friendly, professional demeanor. The role is scheduled Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and pays $17.90 per hour, with weekly pay and access to pay advances before payday. Experience is preferred but not required; training is provided.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
At least 18 years of age.
Valid driver's license.
Able to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
Able to work outdoors in all conditions.
Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English to complete basic reports.

Cleaning or related experience is preferred, but not required; training is provided.

Responsibilities

Complete a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor.
Acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting or smile, and provide directions or city information.
Remove litter from streets, sidewalks, and alleys while moving through the zone with a rolling trash can and supplies.
Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, and similar surfaces.
Pull weeds from tree wells, sidewalk cracks, and vacant lots.
Damp-wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces such as trash can lids and news boxes.
Watch for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report them to Safety Ambassadors via two-way radio.
Complete basic daily reports of tasks performed.
