About The Position

Block by Block employs Ambassadors to make public spaces friendlier, safer, and cleaner for the communities they serve. The Cleaning Ambassador works visibly at street level, carrying out a variety of cleaning tasks in an assigned zone while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor. The role involves working outdoors, engaging pedestrians and visitors, providing directions or city information, and reporting unwanted behavior or criminal activity to Safety Ambassadors by two-way radio. The schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and weekend availability is required. The position pays $18.82 per hour, with weekly pay and access to pay advances before payday.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
At least 18 years of age.
Valid driver's license.
Weekend availability is required.
Ability to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
Ability to work outdoors in all conditions.
Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English to complete basic reports.

Nice To Haves

Cleaning experience is preferred but not required; training is provided.

Responsibilities

Clean streets, sidewalks, alleys, and other areas in the assigned zone while moving with a rolling trash can containing supplies and tools.
Remove litter such as fast-food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris.
Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, and similar objects.
Pull weeds from tree wells, sidewalk cracks, and vacant lots.
Damp-wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, including trash-can lids and news boxes.
Acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with friendly greetings, and provide directions or city information.
Maintain a positive, professional demeanor.
Watch for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report them to Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios.
Complete basic daily reports of tasks performed.
