About The Position

New York Institute of Technology seeks a Cleaner for its Long Island campus. The Cleaner performs routine custodial and cleaning duties to maintain a safe, clean, and orderly environment in accordance with established standards and procedures. The position is covered under the 32BJ Collective Bargaining Agreement. The scheduled hours are Tuesday through Friday, 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM, and Saturday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The position pays $21.00 per hour. The employee must follow NYIT policies and procedures, including time and attendance requirements and policies regarding NYIT-issued uniforms.

Requirements

Previous professional cleaning industry experience is required.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds, bend and stoop, climb a six-foot ladder, and work near or in confined spaces and storage rooms.
Must have a valid New York State driver's license.
Must adhere to NYIT policies and procedures, including time and attendance requirements and policies concerning NYIT-issued uniforms.

High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

Clean and disinfect buildings, including removing trash, recycling, bottles, and paper.
Sweep and mop surfaces manually.
Scrub, strip, wax, vacuum, extract, shampoo, dust, polish, and buff surfaces manually and mechanically.
Clean light fixtures.
Foam showers and restrooms.
Select and mix cleaning chemicals properly.
Sanitize and disinfect surfaces and fixtures using equipment such as auto scrubbers, buffers, vacuum cleaners, power washers, carpet extractors, and hand tools.
Restock bathroom supplies when required.
Take direction from NYIT administration, management, and supervisory teams in a timely and professional manner.
May optionally complete Facilities condition assessments or inspections to communicate conditions through the University or department.
