About The Position

New York Institute of Technology’s Long Island campus is hiring a Cleaner to perform routine custodial and cleaning duties and maintain a safe, clean, and orderly environment in accordance with established standards and procedures. The position is covered under the 32BJ Collective Bargaining Agreement. The work schedule is Tuesday through Friday, 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM, and Saturday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The Cleaner may also be asked, on an optional basis, to complete Facilities condition assessments or inspections so that conditions can be communicated through the University or department.

Requirements

Previous professional cleaning industry experience is required.
Adhere to NYIT policies and procedures, including time and attendance requirements and policies concerning NYIT-issued uniforms.
Able to lift 50 pounds, bend and stoop, climb a six-foot ladder, and work near or in confined spaces and storage rooms.
Valid New York State driver's license required.

High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

Clean and disinfect buildings, including removing trash and recycling, bottles, and paper.
Sweep and mop surfaces manually.
Scrub, strip, wax, vacuum, extract, shampoo, dust, polish, and buff surfaces, manually or mechanically.
Clean light fixtures, showers, and restrooms.
Select and mix cleaning chemicals properly.
Sanitize and disinfect surfaces and fixtures using equipment and hand tools.
Restock bathroom supplies when required.
Take direction from NYIT Administration, management, and supervisory teams in a timely and professional manner.
Optionally complete Facilities condition assessments or inspections and communicate conditions through the University or department.
