Clean Room Manufacturing Technician - 2nd Shift

Teledyne Technologies•Goleta, CA

About The Position

Under the general supervision of the fab manager or shift leadership, the Cleanroom Manufacturing Technician performs hands-on semiconductor processing in a cleanroom, with emphasis on manual wafer handling, tool setup, recipe verification, lot movement, inspection, and documentation. The technician uses experienced judgment and maintains strict contamination-control discipline while executing production work accurately and independently to support flow, yield, quality, and schedule adherence across lithography, deposition, and wet processes. This is a second-shift position, 2:30 PM–11:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Training takes place on first shift, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, and occasional future retraining on first shift will be required. The role focuses on accurate manual execution and production flow rather than process development. The technician is expected to work with ownership and discipline when support resources may be limited, recognize abnormal conditions, stop or escalate work when appropriate, and provide a complete handoff to the next shift. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 3–5 years of hands-on experience in semiconductor, cleanroom, microfabrication, precision manufacturing, or similarly controlled production. Technical training, military technical experience, or a related associate degree is preferred. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee, or eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce. The listed salary range is $50,600–$67,500; actual compensation depends on factors including location, education, training, experience, skills, and position type.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 3–5 years of hands-on experience in semiconductor, cleanroom, microfabrication, precision manufacturing, or similarly controlled production.
  • Demonstrated experience with manual wafer handling, manual lot movement, tool loading and unloading, inspection, and process documentation in a controlled environment.
  • Working knowledge of MES or workflow-tracking systems, lot travelers, SPC entries, and production documentation practices.
  • Computer skills including email, data entry, production tracking, log review, and clear written shift communication.
  • Ability to work independently, follow detailed work instructions, and escalate issues appropriately in a production environment.
  • Strong contamination-control discipline and ability to work in full cleanroom PPE for extended periods.
  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 8–10 hours per shift.
  • Ability to manually handle wafer carriers, cassettes, materials, and production supplies weighing up to approximately 25 lbs.

  • Effective written and verbal communication across shifts, including concise passdown of tool status, WIP status, holds, delays, and risk items.
  • Problem-solving mindset, willingness to escalate early, and commitment to product protection.
  • Team-oriented, dependable approach and comfort working in a high-discipline production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual wafer processing, including loading and unloading, carrier movement, tool preparation, and lot handling using approved cleanroom methods.

  • Record, verify, and track production data in MES systems, including SPC entries, equipment logs, lot travelers, and manual process documentation.
  • Perform inspection, basic metrology, and visual verification to assess process output and identify abnormalities.
  • Identify and escalate equipment issues, process deviations, material concerns, contamination risks, and product quality risks with supporting details.
  • Support troubleshooting and corrective actions with engineering and senior technicians while maintaining production discipline and documentation accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate records of lot travelers, tool usage, process runs, rework activity, and shift handoffs.
  • Prioritize accurate manual execution, production flow, lot movement, and schedule adherence rather than process development.
  • Communicate WIP status, tool status, open issues, and risk items clearly to the next shift.
