About The Position

The classroom tutor provides academic development support to students in small groups or one-on-one settings. The tutor also supports classroom teachers with issues and strategies for working with disadvantaged children, helping meet district curriculum goals and students’ needs. The position works 7 hours per day during a 9-month work year and is part of the Education Support Staff Association (ESSA) bargaining unit. New hires are paid $21.60–$24.14 per hour (Grade 6, depending on experience); internal hourly rates are determined by the ESSA Negotiated Agreement.

Requirements

Meet at least one of the following education or assessment qualifications: a high school diploma or equivalent and completion of the ParaProfessional Assessment, or the ability to pass it within four months of hire; an associate’s degree or higher; or completion of two years of higher education (at least 48 semester hours) or equivalent work experience.
Demonstrate the ability to maintain accurate records and implement plans.
Have knowledge of high school-level mathematics, reading, English, social studies, and science.
Demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communication in English.
Be able to relate to and work successfully with students and adults.
Be able to work as part of a team to develop and deliver academic programs for students.
