About The Position

Provides instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher and assists with preparing, conducting, and managing classroom activities. The aide may work with individual students or small groups, support classroom and school-day supervision, and perform related administrative and classroom tasks. The role reports to the Principal and assigned teacher(s).

Requirements

High school diploma or GED certificate.
Must have met the formal academic assessment requirement, hold an associate’s degree, or have completed two years of study at an institution of higher learning.
Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
Ability to work well with children.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Some experience working with children.

Responsibilities

Provide instruction to students under the direction of a teacher, working with individuals or small groups.
Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
Assist with administering and scoring objective testing instruments or work assignments.
Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
Help the teacher maintain administrative records and prepare required reports.
Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
Cover classes during teacher absences when substitutes are unavailable.
Help supervise students throughout the school day, including in the classroom, lunchroom, bus, and playground.
Make the teacher aware of individual students’ special needs or problems.
Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
