About The Position

The Hagedorn Little Village School in Seaford, New York is hiring per diem Classroom Aides/Teacher Assistants for lunch coverage and floater assignments. Aides work with students ages 3–12 with developmental disabilities, supporting their social, emotional, and academic development, as well as personal care. They collaborate with teachers, other classroom aides and assistants, and therapists in a supportive special education environment. Classrooms have 6–12 students. The school year follows most district calendars, with a 10-month school session plus a six-week summer session. School breaks and holidays are paid. Schedule options include 11:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday; 9:00 a.m.–2:40 p.m. Monday through Friday or Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; and 9:15 a.m.–2:20 p.m. or 9:15 a.m.–2:40 p.m. Monday through Friday. The hourly rate is $18.00 for non-certified aides and $18.50 for NYS Certified Teaching Assistants. Teacher Aides who pursue and obtain NYS Assistant Teacher Certification will be reimbursed for all costs; details are provided at interview.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to lift children weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Must complete an initial medical exam and background clearances.
• Caring and compassionate approach to working with students with developmental disabilities.
• Comfort assisting with students’ social, emotional, and academic development, as well as personal care.

Nice To Haves

• Prior special education classroom experience.
• NYS Assistant Teacher Certification, or willingness to pursue and obtain it.
