About The Position

The role of Classification Technician with Pasco County Corrections department consists of classifying and labeling inmates with classification codes to ensure the safety and security of inmates, staff, contract staff and others having access to the facility. Classification Technicians are tasked with day to day functions of identifying and tracking the status of inmates who may be Veterans, foreign born, inmates with medical or mental health concerns, gang members, inmates eligible for worker status, inmates with holds from other agencies/states and the Department of Corrections, juvenile inmates, and inmates meeting the Jessica Lundsford Act or Anti Murder Act. Completes forms and reports and other routine office duties. Conduct inmate orientation, review inmate criminal histories and relevant classification considerations which may change throughout incarceration.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent and three (3) years of experience using a computer and performing routine office duties OR an Associate degree from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of experience.
  • Ability to organize, track, and maintain informational data and materials.
  • Ability to work under emotional/physical stress due to inmate explicit language.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to operate a computer using various software systems in both entry and retrieval of criminal background information.
  • Ability to evaluate and analyze data.
  • Ability to interact positively and effectively with staff at all levels.
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
  • Unescorted CJIS clearance as authorized by FDLE is required.
