About The Position

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Union Correctional Institutional in the Classification Department. Our mission in Classification is to enhance inmate rehabilitation and safety by conducting regular and unscheduled assessments that monitor progress, establish positive adjustment goals, and inspire inmates to achieve them. We are committed to developing comprehensive inmate management plans that identify individual needs and risks, while coordinating targeted referrals for treatment, programs, work, and services to address both inmate and departmental objectives. Through thorough evaluation of diverse information sources—including reports, interviews, and observations—we make informed decisions to ensure effective inmate management. Additionally, we maintain accurate and detailed records within the Offender Based Information System (OBIS) and other essential applications to support transparency and accountability in all aspects of our work. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Requirements

  • Experience in case management that uses assessments, planning, coordination, and evaluation to meet the individuals’ needs.
  • Experience reviewing, auditing, analyzing, and/or proofreading data.
  • Experience applying laws, applicable rules, and procedures.
  • Experience or training in the use of the Offender Based Information System (OBIS) and/or related computer programs or applications.
  • Experience with Microsoft applications such Word, Excel, and/or PowerPoint.
  • Experience responding to grievances, inmate requests, or other correspondence.

Nice To Haves

  • Four years’ experience in caseload management; or
  • Four years’ experience analyzing data and/or interpreting rules/statutes.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting periodic and unscheduled assessments to track inmate progress, set positive adjustment goals, and motivate inmates to achieve them.
  • Develop comprehensive inmate management plans and identify needs and risks.
  • Planning and coordinating targeted referrals for treatment, programs, work, and services to meet both inmate and departmental needs.
  • Collaborate with various areas for optimal outcomes.
  • Evaluating diverse information sources, such as reports, interviews, and observations, to make informed decisions on inmate management.
  • Maintaining accurate and detailed inmate records in the Offender Based Information System (OBIS) and other necessary applications.
  • Compile and develop records as needed.
  • Leading disciplinary hearings, making custody and reclassification recommendations, and handling special status inmate reviews.
  • Ensure all eligible inmates receive appropriate gain time awards.
