About The Position

The Lee County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) is seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and service-focused Classification & Compensation Specialist to support the County’s classification and pay administration programs. This position plays a critical role in ensuring job classifications, pay structures, and compensation practices remain accurate, compliant, competitive, and aligned with organizational needs. The Classification & Compensation Specialist maintains the integrity of job data within the HRIS, supports departments with organizational design and workforce planning, and provides guidance on classification and pay decisions. The ideal candidate is meticulous, collaborative, and confident interpreting policies, analyzing data, and advising leadership. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to navigate County policies, collective bargaining agreements, and wage and hour regulations.

Requirements

  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to: An Associate’s degree or two years of specialized coursework/training in Human Resources or a closely related field AND Two (2) years of experience in Human Resources or a closely related area
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Progressively responsible experience specifically in compensation or classification work
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP)
  • SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR certification

Responsibilities

  • Conduct classification studies, review and audit position descriptions, and recommend appropriate classifications and pay grades.
  • Maintain accurate, compliant position-related data in the HRIS, ensuring job information is current and aligned with County standards and compensation structures.
  • Provide guidance to managers and HR partners on classification and compensation matters, including interpretation of County policies, collective bargaining agreements, and federal, state, and local wage and hour regulations.
  • Lead or support compensation projects, including pay plan development, implementation, and policy administration.
  • Conduct compensation analyses for personnel actions such as hiring, promotions, transfers, and demotions; process compensation-related changes and support approved pay adjustments.
  • Collaborate with departments on organizational structure, workforce planning, and position management.
  • Develop, conduct, and analyze salary surveys; maintain market competitiveness; and respond to external survey requests.
  • Support wage and hour compliance reviews, including FLSA audits and position-level assessments.
  • Prepare compensation metrics, reporting, and data analyses to support management decision-making.
  • Assist with public records requests related to classification or compensation.
  • Participate in HRIS testing, configuration, and workgroups related to classification and compensation processes.
  • Contribute to training efforts and communicate compensation-related updates to departments and stakeholders.
  • Support broader Human Resources initiatives, including recruitment, onboarding, process improvement efforts, and cross-functional collaboration with Employee Relations, Benefits, Learning & Development, Operations, and Technology.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
