Requirements
- 21 years of age or older with a valid state-issued driver’s license.
- Clean driving record with no serious violations in the past three years; candidates must meet CarMax’s Driver Safety Evaluation criteria.
- Physical ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds; secure, block, and restrain vehicles during transport; and perform repetitive physical tasks including pulling, torquing, and tensioning chains, binders, and straps to meet FMCSA and CarMax load securement standards.
- Must be able to climb, bend, and kneel to access and secure vehicles on multi-level transport decks.
- Ability to meet DOT & FMCSA qualification requirements.
- Comfortable working in outdoor environments, including exposure to noise and inclement weather.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with adherence to CarMax policies and safety standards.
- Works efficiently and uses time wisely.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the state.
- 2+ years of Class A CDL driving experience (Military heavy/medium tactical vehicle experience considered).
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT and CarMax standards using company hauler.
- Maintain accurate and compliant DOT logs and documentation.
- Load, secure, transport, and unload CarMax vehicles safely and efficiently, including hands-on freight handling, ladder climbing, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Move vehicles between CarMax locations and approved vendors using a company-provided truck, keeping your equipment clean, well-maintained, and operationally ready.
- Deliver vehicles accurately and on time to support inventory flow and keep customers and stores on schedule.
- Represent CarMax professionally – interact with vendors, store associates, and the public in a way that reflects our values every time.
