About The Position

As a Fleet Driver I, you transport vehicles between CarMax locations and approved vendors to support inventory flow and help ensure vehicles arrive at the right place on time. The role emphasizes safety, reliability, integrity, and professional interaction with vendors, store associates, and the public. Drivers use a company-provided truck and hauler, follow DOT and CarMax standards, and keep their equipment clean, maintained, and ready for operation. The work includes loading, securing, transporting, and unloading vehicles, as well as hands-on freight handling and working outdoors in all weather conditions. The posting describes consistent schedules and routes designed to get drivers home daily.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years of age and have a valid state-issued driver’s license.
• Have a clean driving record with no serious violations in the past three years and meet CarMax’s Driver Safety Evaluation criteria.
• Be physically able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; secure, block, and restrain vehicles; and perform repetitive pulling, torquing, and tensioning of chains, binders, and straps.
• Be able to climb, bend, and kneel to access and secure vehicles on multi-level transport decks.
• Meet DOT and FMCSA qualification requirements.
• Be comfortable working outdoors, including exposure to noise and inclement weather.
• Have strong communication and teamwork skills and adhere to CarMax policies and safety standards.
• Work efficiently and use time wisely.
• Have a valid state-issued Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Have at least 2 years of Class A CDL driving experience (military heavy/medium tactical vehicle experience considered), or at least 2 years of Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) driving experience at CarMax; non-Class A CMV experience is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT and CarMax standards using a company hauler.
• Maintain accurate and compliant DOT logs and documentation.
• Load, secure, transport, and unload vehicles safely and efficiently.
• Move vehicles between CarMax locations and approved vendors using a company-provided truck.
• Keep equipment clean, well-maintained, and operationally ready.
• Deliver vehicles accurately and on time to support inventory flow and keep customers and stores on schedule.
• Represent CarMax professionally when interacting with vendors, store associates, and the public.

Benefits

• Paid sick time: up to 48 hours per year, accrued per pay period, for eligible full-time hourly or commission/incentive-eligible associates.
• Paid vacation: 80 to 200 hours per year after a 90-day waiting period, depending on years of continuous service, for eligible full-time hourly or commission/incentive-eligible associates.
• Paid scheduled holidays: 8 hours of pay for each of 6 scheduled holidays per year, plus 1 floating holiday, for eligible full-time hourly or commission/incentive-eligible associates.
• Holiday Premium Pay when eligible associates work on a scheduled holiday due to business need.
• Full-time salaried associates receive paid time away as needed for sick time, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, and floating holidays, subject to manager approval.
