About The Position

Merchants Metals is seeking a local, dedicated Class A CDL Driver who can operate a manual-transmission vehicle. The driver transports goods to businesses and must operate safely in varied traffic, weather, and maneuvering conditions, including backing and navigating tight spaces. The role also involves vehicle inspections and records, cargo securement, delivery paperwork, and communication using truck-related equipment. On days without driving runs, the driver may assist with warehouse and yard duties. Overtime may be required.

Requirements

At least 3 years of Class A CDL driving experience.
At least 12 months of flatbed truck operating experience.
Ability to drive a manual-transmission vehicle.
Knowledge of construction equipment and safe driving procedures.
Experience with strapping and load securement.
Registration with the FMCSA Clearinghouse.
Knowledge of electronic logging requirements and GPS systems, and ability to read maps.
Clean driving record and diligent attention to safety.
Forklift skills.

Responsibilities

Operate a commercial motor vehicle in accordance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Maintain driver duty-status, mileage, and other records required by law.
Drive to businesses, maneuvering safely in traffic, inclement weather, and tight areas; travel long distances when required.
Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and trailers and maintain service and repair-status logs.
Report injuries, vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, and vehicle damage according to company procedures.
Follow safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment.
Obtain delivery receipts or signatures and collect payment for services when required.
Complete paperwork related to truck operations and freight movements accurately.
Use truck cab computers or tablets, CB radios, phones, and GPS equipment to exchange information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers.
Secure cargo properly and maintain safe load securement throughout trips.
Assist with warehouse and yard duties on days without driving runs.
Work overtime as required.
