About The Position

GFL Environmental is looking for a Class 3 Front Load Driver to join our team in Victoria, British Columbia! As a Class 3 driver, you will be responsible for safely, efficiently, and courteously providing waste removal services to customers. An ideal candidate will have a friendly demeanor and is physically capable of completing job duties in a positive, team oriented and supportive environment. The primary focus of this role is waste collection and transportation, operating a Front Load truck along your assigned route, and properly disposing of all waste at GFL facilities. The driver must be comfortable operating a Front Load truck.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class 3
  • Minimum 1 year of commercial driving experience OR CDL school certificate
  • Ability to control operations of equipment; maneuvering truck in and out of spaces, using mirrors to back distances of approximately 120 feet or more
  • Knowledge of trucks, their components, and the basic maintenance requirements for safe operation
  • Exert physical effort including pushing, pulling, bending and lifting items up to 50 lbs.
  • Use fine motor coordination with arm, hand, finger and leg dexterity
  • Ability to kneel, crawl and climb
  • Sitting is required 75% of the time
  • Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located is required.

Responsibilities

  • Driving and operating a Front Load Vehicle on assigned routes, mechanically collecting waste
  • Transporting all collected solid waste to post-collection facilities
  • Maneuvering truck in and out of minimum clearance spaces
  • Using a key map and GPS to locate service addresses
  • Following safe operating practices, including lock out or tag out procedures
  • Cleaning loose trash off the truck or ground around truck
  • Maintaining a clean site along roads and highways by tidying container spills that occur during dumping process
  • Submitting pre-trip and post-trip inspections and/or vehicle condition reports
  • Interacting with customers or general public in a courteous manner along designated route
  • Notifying management of any issues along collection route
  • Perform afternoon tasks, either continuing tasks from the morning or starting new ones
  • Appropriately store equipment and lay groundwork for a smooth next day schedule
