About The Position

Sompo’s Claims Trainee Program is an 18-month program beginning in July 2027, designed to develop the business and technical skills needed for a career in insurance. Based in Sompo’s New York, NY office, Claims Trainees work alongside experienced Claims professionals to learn the organization’s business units and claims-handling philosophy through on-the-job learning, workplace mentoring, and directed self-study. The program prepares trainees to earn claims-handling authority at Sompo. Trainees work directly on client accounts and claims, build relationships, and identify customer needs. The curriculum also includes training in negotiation, risk analysis, and relationship management. The program combines hands-on work reviewing claims and analyzing coverage with professional designation courses and business-unit-aligned professional development. Sompo covers fees and textbooks for supported continuing education, provides time off to take exams, and offers additional compensation for successful completion of many courses.
