About The Position

The AV Claims Team Lead is the working leader of the AV claims team. The role carries a reduced inventory of the most complex files, coaches adjusters on AV-specific evidence and liability analysis, and serves as the first escalation point for severity, litigation, and client-sensitive incidents. The position leads day-to-day work for APD, BI, and Litigation Adjusters, handles or co-handles high-severity and novel-liability AV files, and owns the AV handling playbook. It also serves as a day-to-day contact for AV operator, carrier, and client partners; monitors team performance and quality; and works with Compliance, QA, Legal, and Product on process and tooling improvements. The role calls for detailed knowledge of SAE J3016 driving automation levels and how responsibility shifts between human drivers, systems, and operators. The lead must be able to determine what was in control at the time of a loss, request and preserve AV evidence, analyze coverage, liability, and damages across relevant exposures, and meet applicable crash-reporting, privacy, and data-handling requirements. This is a 100% remote, home-based role.

Requirements

  • 7–10+ years of commercial auto claims experience across physical damage, bodily injury, and litigated files.
  • 2+ years leading, mentoring, or supervising adjusters.
  • Detailed understanding of SAE J3016 driving automation Levels 0–5, including the distinction between driver-assist Levels 0–2 and driverless Levels 3–5 and the related allocation of responsibility.
  • Ability to determine whether a human driver, driver-assist feature, or automated driving system was in control at the time of loss.
  • Ability to request, preserve, and interpret AV evidence, including telematics, event data, camera and sensor footage, remote-assistance logs, and software versions.
  • Ability to apply coverage, liability, and damages analysis across fleet-operator, manufacturer, supplier, and third-party exposures.
  • Ability to work with AV operator safety, legal, and risk teams under tight response timelines.
  • Ability to meet federal and state crash-reporting, privacy, and data-handling requirements for AV incidents.
  • Ability to document files so a supervisor, carrier, or auditor can follow the liability decision.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and client-management skills.
  • Comfort with KPIs, audit results, and data-driven coaching.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent claims experience.
  • Active adjuster license(s) as required by the states handled, or ability to obtain them within 90 days of hire.
  • Proficiency in claims systems, document management, and Microsoft Office.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with claimants, counsel, carriers, and client partners.
