About The Position

Sompo is seeking a Claims Specialist for their Japan TPA Claims Ocean Marine team. This team primarily serves customers in the US and Japan, frequently interacting with claims professionals in the parent company in Japan to bridge cultural gaps and deliver exceptional service. The role offers direct access to experienced claims professionals with extensive industry and product knowledge who are empowered to make decisions, ensuring diverse international client needs are met with high standards of service and expertise. This position is based out of the Los Angeles, CA office, fostering a collaborative work environment for employee growth and long-lasting careers. Requirements

  • Practical experience in claims handling within an insurance company, regardless of line of business, with a strong preference for candidates who have specific expertise in marine cargo claims handling.
  • Possession of an adjuster’s license is required, or a demonstrated willingness to obtain the necessary licensing promptly upon joining.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in using proprietary claims management systems and other relevant software applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including the principal office in Japan.
  • High proficiency in efficiently managing workflow during high-volume periods.
  • Demonstrated ambition to expand responsibilities, achieve career advancement, and pursue insurance-related professional certifications (such as CPCU) throughout their career.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with prior experience working in Japan or for Japanese companies will be highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Handle marine cargo claims, including thorough examination of coverage, liability, loss adjustment, and setting accurate reserves, while adhering to established processes and systems.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of claim exposures to the Principal, Underwriting, Senior Management, and Reinsurers as required.
  • Ensure compliance with manuals and standard operating procedures.
  • Foster and sustain strong working relationships with customers, brokers, agents, and other key business partners to facilitate seamless claims processes and enhance service delivery.
