About The Position

Great American Insurance Group's Executive Liability Division is seeking a Claims Representative or Senior Claims Representative, depending on background and experience, to join their team in Schaumburg, IL. This is a hybrid role, requiring 3 days in the office and 2 days remote, with an expectation of maintaining a meaningful on-site presence for collaboration and relationship building. The division underwrites Directors’ and Officers’ Liability Insurance, Employment Practices Liability Insurance, and Fiduciary Liability Insurance for various types of companies. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, Associate degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Generally, 6 months to 7 years of experience handling casualty claims (including litigated claims) and/or experience as a paralegal or legal professional supporting civil litigation.
  • Maintains necessary adjuster licenses.

Nice To Haves

  • Paralegal certificate, legal experience, or equivalent claims experience.
  • Completion of or continuing progress toward a professional designation, such as Associate in Claims.

Responsibilities

  • Handle an inventory of claim files, demonstrating functional analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Organize and prioritize caseload, handling confidential information with discretion.
  • Perform detailed analysis of each claim, evaluating coverage and liability.
  • Issue written coverage opinions and monitor all aspects of the file towards resolution, including hiring and paying defense counsel.
  • Develop and implement claim litigation and resolution strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed claim files, including correspondence, reports, and settlement agreements.
  • Provide information to underwriters and reinsurers on specific claims, insureds, and legal trends.
  • Secure and analyze necessary information for claim investigation.
  • Attend arbitrations or mediations as necessary.
  • Affect settlements/reserves within prescribed limits and submit recommendations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate claims payments.
  • Ensure claims handling complies with statutes, regulations, and company policies.
  • Provide technical advice to other functional areas.
  • Maintain necessary adjuster licenses.
  • Other duties as assigned.
