The Claims Manager will oversee all daily functions of the Claims Department and liaise between Upper Management and the Claims Department. This role requires strong knowledge of standard property and casualty insurance statutes, regulations, and practices, as well as casualty/liability claims adjusting, including analyzing and coordinating the disposition of claims. The manager will also be responsible for hiring and training claims department staff, advising senior management on potential exposures and problems, and reviewing problem files such as insureds disputing denials or complaints filed with the Insurance Department. Additionally, the role involves recommending and assigning attorneys, keeping all parties updated, directing claims staff on coverage issues, reviewing daily checks, and working with accounting on claim payments and fund availability. The Claims Manager will also handle incoming phone calls, review and distribute mail, prepare yearly staff performance evaluations and goal setting, encourage continuing education for the claims team, run monthly Bordereaux reports, perform peer reviews for London contracts, review adjuster performance and E&O certificates, interview adjusting firms, review London contracts for compliance, prepare claim files for audits, and comply with subpoenas.
