About The Position

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Compensation – Civil, Professional, and Out-of-Quebec Liability, you will be at the heart of investigations related to Beneva and L'Unique's liability claims. We are looking for a senior claims adjuster to cover the Quebec sector and its surroundings. In your role as a field claims adjuster, you will analyze circumstances, identify causes, and evaluate the quantum of claims. This role offers the opportunity to handle a wide variety of cases, ranging from personal and business insurance claims within the professional liability and directors and officers insurance program.

Requirements

  • Diploma or college certificate in insurance, claims settlement option.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as an external claims adjuster and 5 years in handling liability cases.
  • Remain available for travel throughout the province of Quebec.
  • Valid business insurance claims adjuster certificate issued by the Autorité des marchés financiers.
  • Knowledge of professional liability.
  • Good knowledge of applicable laws in their work.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate assigned claims on the road, including obtaining statements from relevant parties.
  • Verify and estimate the extent of damages.
  • Coordinate the activities of various stakeholders in the case and make decisions on accepting liability and paying claims.
  • Obtain quotes and verify invoices presented by claimants, referring to the building estimation department or relevant professional if necessary.
  • Obtain expert opinions from professionals to assess insureds' liability.
  • Determine payable indemnities considering insurance contract coverages.
  • Detect potentially fraudulent cases and submit them to the manager for transfer to the special investigation unit.
  • Establish insureds' liability and, if applicable, involve third parties.
  • Authorize settlements and accept liability for claims within payment authority limits, and obtain authorization from appropriate persons for cases exceeding this amount.
  • Request legal opinions in complex cases and subsequently take a position.
  • Represent the insurer during CRA (likely arbitration/mediation), throughout the province.
