About The Position

Audubon is seeking a Civil/Structural Designer III for its Houston, Texas office. The role performs assignments associated with designing civil/structural equipment, components, structures, and systems. The designer prepares and verifies drawings and bills of material, interprets design direction, performs basic calculations, and implements revisions and change control under the direction of senior designers and engineers. The position uses 2D or 3D computer-aided design software to develop layouts, fabrication and assembly drawings, technical specifications, and engineering change documentation. It also involves field surveys and data gathering, documenting existing conditions, preparing as-built drawings, assessing design changes for fit or interference issues, and recommending solutions. Deliverables must meet company standards and approved project schedules and budgets. The designer works with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and consultants; maintains project file management; tracks assigned project schedules and budgets; and follows company, client, and regulatory HSSE requirements.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
At least 10 years of experience preferred.
AutoCAD experience required.
Field experience required.
Experience in offshore oil and gas, onshore gas processing, hydrocarbon storage and transportation, chemical manufacturing, or refining required.
Small project lead experience required.
Ability to find solutions to work-related problems or address them proactively.

Responsibilities

Prepare detailed drawings of parts and assemblies from layouts, designs, and working drawings, including projections, sectional views, and standard specifications.
Interpret verbal or written direction to initiate preliminary designs.
Perform basic calculations and trigonometric functions, including area, volume, and slope calculations, using charts and tables as needed.
Check and verify the accuracy of drawings prepared by others.
Prepare bills of material and specifications when drawings are complete, and revise drawings and bills of material to reflect engineering changes.
Implement revisions and change control according to company standards under the direction of senior designers and engineers.
Assemble information and reference drawings from a variety of sources.
Look for product improvements and cost reductions.
Determine and initiate drawings or models using views that effectively communicate construction requirements.
Assist with field surveys, documentation of existing conditions, and recommendations for design solutions.
Check field red-lined drawings and produce accurate as-built drawings as needed.
Design components or portions of systems and modify existing designs to develop or improve them.
Use 2D or 3D computer-aided design software to create civil/structural layouts and fabrication and assembly drawings.
Create technical specifications to support procurement, fabrication, and installation of components.
Create documentation needed to process Engineering Change Orders.
Use engineering sketches, specifications, and supporting documents to design, detail, document, and verify parts, subassemblies, assemblies, and system configurations.
Identify dimensions, angles, curvatures, tolerances, and materials required for construction.
Analyze proposed changes for fit and interference issues and recommend solutions or alternate construction options.
Produce drawings and deliverables to company standards within project-approved schedules and budgets.
Maintain files according to company and industry standards.
Communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and other consultants.
Perform field data gathering as required to complete project deliverables within approved scope and schedule.
Track and maintain awareness of the schedule and budget for assigned projects.
Comply with company and client HSSE standards and federal and local HSSE regulations.
Participate in company and client hazard identification and observation programs, and promptly report unsafe acts, conditions, or incidents to a supervisor.
