About The Position

This experienced engineering contractor independently collaborates with Client stakeholders and cross-functional teams to develop and implement risk-informed tools and processes that enhance nuclear safety, operational decision-making, and regulatory compliance. The role requires advanced system and/or design engineering expertise, sound judgment, and delivery of high-quality work with minimal supervision and rework. The engineer develops technical bases and supporting documentation for 10 CFR 50.69 categorizations, Surveillance Test Risk-Informed Documented Evaluation (STRIDE) in the Surveillance Frequency Control Program, and Risk Informed Completion Times. Workers at this level solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with general supervision and are expected to develop advanced skills and greater independence. They apply fundamental concepts and procedures to fairly complex and varied work. Work is primarily performed in an office environment, with periodic on-site work at a nuclear generating station as needed. A hybrid arrangement may be available, but on-site presence is required for specific meetings, plant support activities, badging, and site access needs as directed by the Client.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of relevant plant or corporate nuclear experience; Client nuclear experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in the utility industry at a site or station, preferably in Engineering or Operations.
  • Familiarity with fundamental BWR or PWR plant systems.
  • Proficiency in researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations.
  • Five years of discipline experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Past utility employee, preferably a former Client employee with established working relationships across engineering, operations, licensing, and other stakeholder groups.
  • SRO certification, RO or SRO license, or Technical Nuclear certification.
  • Advanced knowledge of probabilistic risk assessment methodologies and risk-informed applications, such as RI-ISI, 10 CFR 50.69, and risk-informed technical specifications, and related regulatory requirements.
  • Probabilistic Risk Assessment experience.
  • Proficiency in project management principles; an MBA and/or PMP designation is viewed favorably.

Responsibilities

  • Develop technical bases and supporting documentation for 10 CFR 50.69 categorizations, STRIDE evaluations, and Risk Informed Completion Times.
  • Research and provide reference documentation to third parties.
  • Review products with site resources.
  • Research and resolve system design and operations questions arising from project activities.
  • Provide engineering and technical expertise to identify, analyze, and resolve complex issues; assess impacts on a system and fleet-wide basis; and communicate options and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Plan and execute assigned work, including estimating, scheduling, and status reporting; manage multiple workstreams where limited standardization requires independent problem solving.
  • Prepare and maintain thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, calculations, analyses, and supporting documentation.
  • Recommend process and standards enhancements as appropriate.
