About The Position

ReNuke Services is seeking a Civil Design Engineer II to support a client's nuclear engineering operations in Charlotte, North Carolina. The position supports risk-informed engineering initiatives intended to enhance nuclear safety, operational decision-making, and regulatory compliance across commercial nuclear facilities. Despite the title, the work is primarily focused on nuclear systems engineering, risk-informed evaluations, and regulatory applications rather than traditional civil or structural design engineering. The engineer will collaborate with engineering, operations, licensing, and other technical stakeholders to develop technical evaluations, supporting documentation, and engineering recommendations. The role is primarily office-based, and a hybrid arrangement may be available. Charlotte is the preferred location. This is a three-year contract position.

  • Previous experience working for a commercial nuclear utility, preferably in engineering or operations.
  • Familiarity with fundamental Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) or Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) plant systems.
  • Experience researching engineering and design issues, evaluating technical alternatives, and developing recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of nuclear plant systems, engineering processes, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to prepare and present technical evaluations and recommendations.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering, operations, licensing, and other technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage complex engineering assignments with general supervision.

  • Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) certification, Reactor Operator (RO) license, SRO license, or Technical Nuclear certification.
  • Project management experience.
  • PMP certification or MBA.

Responsibilities

  • Develop technical bases and supporting documentation for 10 CFR 50.69 categorizations, Surveillance Test Risk-Informed Documented Evaluations (STRIDE), and Risk-Informed Completion Times.
  • Research and provide technical reference documentation to third-party engineering organizations.
  • Coordinate technical product reviews with nuclear site engineering and operations personnel.
  • Research and resolve system design, plant operations, and engineering questions arising during project activities.
  • Evaluate complex technical issues and determine potential impacts across individual nuclear systems and multiple facilities.
  • Develop engineering recommendations and communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, engineering analyses, correspondence, and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, licensing, and other departments to support risk-informed initiatives.
