About The Position

ReNuke Services is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer II to support a client's nuclear engineering operations in Charlotte, North Carolina. The role supports risk-informed engineering initiatives intended to enhance nuclear safety, operational decision-making, and regulatory compliance across commercial nuclear facilities. The engineer will collaborate with engineering, operations, licensing, and other technical stakeholders to develop technical evaluations, supporting documentation, and engineering recommendations related to nuclear plant systems and risk-informed applications. The position is primarily focused on nuclear systems engineering, risk-informed evaluations, and regulatory applications rather than traditional mechanical design engineering. It is primarily office-based, with a hybrid arrangement potentially available. The assignment is a three-year contract and requires at least five years of relevant nuclear engineering experience and a bachelor's degree.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant nuclear plant or corporate nuclear engineering experience.
  • Previous experience working for a commercial nuclear utility, preferably in engineering or operations.
  • Familiarity with fundamental Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) or Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) plant systems.
  • Experience researching engineering and design issues, evaluating technical alternatives, and developing recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of nuclear plant systems, engineering processes, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to prepare and present technical evaluations and recommendations.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering, operations, licensing, and other technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage complex engineering assignments with general supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Established working relationships with nuclear engineering, operations, and licensing teams.
  • Experience with Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) methodologies and risk-informed applications.
  • Knowledge of 10 CFR 50.69, Risk-Informed Inservice Inspection (RI-ISI), and risk-informed technical specifications.
  • Experience supporting Surveillance Frequency Control Programs and Risk-Informed Completion Times.
  • Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) certification, Reactor Operator (RO) license, SRO license, or Technical Nuclear certification.
  • Project management experience.
  • PMP certification or MBA.

Responsibilities

  • Develop technical bases and supporting documentation for 10 CFR 50.69 categorizations, Surveillance Test Risk-Informed Documented Evaluations (STRIDE), and Risk-Informed Completion Times.
  • Research and provide technical reference documentation to third-party engineering organizations.
  • Coordinate technical product reviews with nuclear site engineering and operations personnel.
  • Research and resolve system design, plant operations, and engineering questions arising during project activities.
  • Evaluate complex technical issues and determine potential impacts across individual nuclear systems and multiple facilities.
  • Develop engineering recommendations and communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, engineering analyses, correspondence, and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, licensing, and other departments to support risk-informed initiatives.
  • Manage multiple engineering assignments, including estimating, scheduling, progress tracking, and status reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, technical standards, and documentation practices.
  • Independently resolve engineering challenges while maintaining accuracy and compliance with nuclear industry requirements.
