•$145,188 - $203,263

About The Position

This role is part of Blue Origin corporate functions, providing centralized support across business units, functions, and locations. The Senior Facilities Design Structural Engineer will lead structural design for Blue Origin’s Florida facilities, including new buildings, expansions, modifications to existing facilities, and sustainment of structures supporting manufacturing, processing, test, and launch operations. The engineer owns projects from concept through construction, designing steel and concrete structures, foundations, crane-supporting structures, and equipment supports; verifying load paths when operating facilities are modified; and assessing and repairing structures exposed to Florida’s coastal, corrosive, hurricane-prone environment. The role serves as engineer of record, reviews outside consultants’ work, supports construction and facility operations, and mentors less experienced engineers. Work takes place in office, operating-facility, active-construction, and launch-site environments. Occasional travel to other Blue Origin sites, agencies, vendors, and contractors is required, approximately 10%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one U.S. state, with the ability to obtain Florida licensure.
  • 10+ years of progressive structural engineering design experience, with a focus on industrial, manufacturing, infrastructure, or heavy commercial facilities.
  • Experience as engineer of record producing sealed structural calculations and construction documents.
  • Experience designing steel and concrete structures and foundations.
  • Experience evaluating existing structures and designing modifications or repairs.
  • Working knowledge of IBC / Florida Building Code, ASCE 7, ACI 318, and AISC 360.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as RISA, RAM, SAP2000, ETABS, or equivalent.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be able to pass a U.S. Air Force / Space Force background check for base access at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
  • Must be available to work extended hours as needed to support critical construction, operations, and program milestones.
  • Willingness to travel to other Blue Origin sites, agencies, vendors, and contractors as required (approximately 10%).
  • Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with crane-supporting structures, high-bay buildings, or vibration-sensitive equipment foundations.
  • Experience with high-wind and hurricane design and corrosion-resistant design in coastal environments.
  • Experience with aerospace, defense, launch, energy, or other heavy industrial facilities.
  • Experience with blast or overpressure design.
  • Experience on federal installations or with NASA, U.S. Space Force, or USACE design review processes.
  • Proficiency with Revit and BIM-based design coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural design for new buildings and expansions, including industrial and high-bay buildings, crane runways and supports, equipment foundations, platforms, and pipe and utility supports.
  • Design structural modifications to existing facilities, including load-path verification and strengthening for new cranes, equipment, tooling, and roof or floor loads.
  • Perform condition assessments of operating facilities, evaluate corrosion and concrete deterioration, and develop repair and remediation designs.
  • Perform structural analysis for gravity, wind and hurricane, seismic, crane, vibration, and other loading conditions.
  • Prepare and seal structural calculations, drawings, and specifications as engineer of record, in compliance with applicable codes and Authority Having Jurisdiction requirements.
  • Review structural deliverables from outside A/E consultants for quality, code compliance, and constructability.
  • Coordinate with civil, electrical, mechanical, fire protection, and architectural disciplines, and with manufacturing, tooling, and ground support equipment teams, to translate needs into structural requirements.
  • Support construction by reviewing submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs; performing site observations; and resolving field issues.
  • Provide engineering support to facilities maintenance and operations teams on structural questions in operating facilities.
