Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) is seeking a Civil Rights Investigator and Resolution Specialist/Deputy Title IX Coordinator to join their team. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field including but not limited to Criminal Justice, Criminology, Education, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Human Resources, Business Administration, Political Science, Pre-Law, Journalism.
  • 3+ years’ experience investigating civil rights complaints including Title IX or equivalent, conducting investigations, and/or complaint resolution or related professional experience
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant federal and state laws and regulations such as Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, ADA/Section 504, FERPA, and VAWA, Illinois Civil Rights Act.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree in human resources, social work, education, public administration, student affairs, or other related field
  • Juris Doctor (JD)
  • Title IX, other Civil Rights investigation training and/or certification
  • Familiarity with Maxient or similar software

Responsibilities

  • Investigating allegations of violations of the University’s non-discrimination policies prohibiting discrimination on the basis of all protected classes as outlined in federal and state mandates (ie., Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, ADA/Section 504, Illinois Human Rights Act) including discrimination-based violence such as sexual misconduct, stalking, and intimate partner violence involving members of the SIUE community.
  • Conducting prompt, thorough, and equitable investigations which may include identifying and interviewing involved parties, gathering and securing relevant documentation, analyzing and synthesizing information gained through the investigation process, and composing a final report detailing the information obtained in a manner consistent with University policies and procedures.
  • Providing thorough information to complainants and respondents, including details regarding policies and procedures, throughout the resolution process demonstrating sensitivity to their needs; refer parties to necessary resources; maintain case files and databases; provide regular updates to the Associate Director for Response and Resolution/ Senior Deputy Title IX Coordinator.
  • Assisting with the implementation of a range of conflict resolution strategies related to conflict prevention, education, coaching, consultation, mediation, and restorative justice practices.
  • Assisting with managing informal resolution process and serve as informal resolution facilitator.
  • Managing all aspects of the hearing process including scheduling, document management, maintenance of records, and respond to procedural questions.
  • Recruiting, training, and managing hearing officers.
  • Developing and offering training with particular focus on employee programming.
  • Tracking and ensuring required training for those involved in the civil rights resolution process.
  • Assisting with maintaining and analyzing relevant data in all aspects of departmental initiatives.
