About The Position

Simms Showers LLP is seeking a Civil Litigation Senior Associate. This is a full-scope civil litigation role with real responsibility and independence. The associate will represent plaintiffs and defendants in a wide variety of civil and commercial litigation matters, ranging from contract and business disputes to personal injury and complex claims. The role involves managing cases through all phases of litigation in state and federal courts, serving as lead or key counsel, and managing cases from initial demand through resolution (motion, settlement, trial, or appeal). The work will span state and federal courts across Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC. The associate will be supported by a seasoned team but will be trusted to take ownership of their cases.

Requirements

• 3+ years of civil litigation experience
• Active bar admission in Virginia or eligibility to waive in
• Demonstrated litigation experience

Nice To Haves

• 5-10+ years of experience preferred
• Maryland and DC bar admission is a plus
• Judicial clerkship

Responsibilities

• Case strategy and client counseling
• Pleadings, discovery, and motions practice
• Depositions and witness preparation
• Negotiation and mediation
• Trial preparation and court appearances
• Managing cases from initial demand through resolution—whether by motion, settlement, or trial—and through appeal when appropriate.
