Civil/Geotechnical Engineer – Mid Level (Hybrid)
About The Position
Barr is seeking a civil or geotechnical engineer to join our innovative and collaborative team. In this hybrid role, you will work on a variety of projects involving traditional civil and geotechnical engineering, with a focus on mine tailings and coal ash storage facility management, supporting the characterization, design, operation, and closure of these facilities. In addition to technical contributions, the primary focus of this role is leading and delivering projects through effective planning, coordination, client engagement, and management of multidisciplinary engineering teams. The ideal candidate for this position is intrinsically motivated and places emphasis on client service. They enjoy working both independently and as part of a team, applying their technical skills and project management expertise to a variety of projects. They are flexible in working with their project teams and are willing to occasionally modify schedules to meet project deadlines and/or client needs. This person is also relationship-focused, as the role involves serving both internal and external clients.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in geotechnical engineering, geological engineering, or civil engineering with a geotechnical emphasis.
- A Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain one within one year.
- 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Willingness and ability to travel periodically.
- Possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.
Nice To Haves
- Master's degree or PhD preferred.
- Strong civil and geotechnical design and project management experience preferred.
- Civil and geotechnical software program experience preferred, including Geostudio, Rocscience, FLAC, gINT or BoreDM, and AutoCAD.
Responsibilities
- Project management: planning, coordinating, and executing projects.
- Prepare proposals and cost estimates for civil and geotechnical projects.
- Help ensure project milestones are met and provide regular updates to project managers and clients.
- Perform engineering analysis and design support tasks from concept through design.
- Prepare and review calculations, reports, and construction plans and specifications.
- Perform site visits, including inspections and construction oversight, and meet face-to-face with clients.
- Provide support through training and/or mentorship for other team members.
