About The Position

Kimley-Horn is seeking engineering students to join its Roadway team in the South San Francisco, California office for Summer 2027. This is not a remote position. The intern will contribute to pre-construction civil engineering design, planning, modification, permitting, and analysis across projects of varying sizes and scopes. The role involves using technical software to analyze, produce, and quality-check client deliverables; assisting project managers and collaborating across disciplines; and developing familiarity with applicable regulations and company and client practices, procedures, and standards. Interns will learn one or more software programs relevant to their discipline, including AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, Excel, MicroStation, VISSIM, OpenRoads, Synchro, and/or GIS. The stated hourly rate is $34.00–$35.00.

Requirements

Be in the process of receiving an ABET-accredited engineering degree (bachelor’s or master’s) in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or Engineering Technology.

Responsibilities

Use technical software programs regularly to analyze, produce, and quality-check client deliverables.
Contribute to pre-construction civil engineering design, planning, modification, permitting, and analysis for projects of varying sizes and scopes.
Solve complex problems, assist project managers, and collaborate across disciplines to support clients’ visions for the built environment.
Develop familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Kimley-Horn’s and clients’ practices, procedures, and standards.
Learn one or more software programs specific to the discipline, such as AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, Excel, MicroStation, VISSIM, OpenRoads, Synchro, and/or GIS.
