About The Position

The John R. Post School of Engineering at Alvernia University is seeking adjunct faculty to teach lecture and laboratory courses in Civil Engineering. These positions are in-person in Reading, Pennsylvania, primarily at the John R. Post Center. Applicants must be available for weekday daytime teaching, typically between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and commit to a recurring weekday schedule for the full semester. Remote or hybrid teaching is not available. Hired candidates will be part of the adjunct pool and may receive separate contracts for individual courses as needs arise, though pool appointment does not guarantee an assignment.

Requirements

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and able to accept employment without current or future employer sponsorship.
• Must be available for weekday daytime teaching, primarily between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
• Must be able to commit to a recurring weekday schedule for the full semester.
• Must submit a current resume or curriculum vitae and a brief letter of interest identifying courses or subject areas of qualification through Alvernia University's ADP employment portal.

Nice To Haves

• Professional Engineer licensure, or progress toward licensure, is especially valued.
• Practicing engineers and technical professionals who can bring current industry experience into the classroom.
• At least a master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Engineering or a closely related field.
• Approximately five or more years of relevant professional experience.
• Comparable combinations of advanced education, professional licensure, specialized expertise, industry experience, research, and teaching will be considered.
• Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, and/or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Teach lecture and laboratory courses in Civil Engineering.
• Bring current industry experience into the classroom.
• Potentially teach courses in Surveying and Geomatics, Structural Engineering and Construction Materials, Geotechnical Engineering, Water Resources and Environmental Engineering, or Transportation, Construction, and Professional Practice.
