About The Position

The Roadway Repair and Maintenance (RRM) Contract Management team is responsible for managing DOT's milling contracts. These contracts are essential for milling streets before paving by RRM's In-House Crews and are crucial for achieving yearly resurfacing targets. This unit oversees milling contracts from their beginning to their closure. The role involves procuring contracts, which includes developing design specifications and estimates for each contract, and collaborating with DOT's ACCO for bidding and registering contracts. The Civil Engineer Intern will be responsible for regularly reviewing and accurately entering field data into the MCMU database, ensuring data integrity and accuracy. They will also provide training and assistance to other MCMU members on using the MCMU access database to enhance team proficiency and ensure consistent database usage. Additionally, the intern will review and process requisitions from contractors, verify compliance and accuracy in contractor invoices, perform cost estimates, and generate daily average milled miles reports. This role supports decision-making by providing accurate financial and operational data and involves collaboration with other units or City agencies on various projects. The intern will assist in preparing contract estimates and budgets, provide accurate financial data for contract management, and prepare and manage task orders assigned to contractors, ensuring clarity and accuracy in assignments. A key responsibility includes conducting reviews of field data before entering it into the MCMU database and validating its accuracy.

Requirements

  • Permanent or filed for the civil service exam # 6116, and provide proof.
  • A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college.
  • A degree in any other engineering area or in civil engineering technology is not acceptable.

Responsibilities
