About The Position

Barr is seeking a civil engineering intern to join its Hibbing team starting in January 2027. This approximately six-month internship supports the Engineering and Design business unit on project teams performing civil engineering and related technical field assignments. The position is based in Barr’s Hibbing, Minnesota, office, and a hybrid arrangement splitting work between the office and a home office may be considered. Start and end dates are flexible to accommodate class schedules, finals, and holidays. Assignments may include civil design and analysis; AutoCAD/Civil 3D drafting and design; field sampling and data collection; preparation of construction plans and specifications, spreadsheets, and short reports; laboratory testing; and construction inspection and observation. A successful candidate is motivated, client-service oriented, and committed to quality deliverables. The role calls for someone who can work independently and collaboratively, adapt schedules occasionally to meet deadlines and client needs, communicate technical information to diverse audiences, and stay organized through scheduling, prioritizing, and follow-up. Travel and periodic schedule adjustments may be needed to meet project requirements. The work may take place on rough terrain at construction sites with limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation. The anticipated compensation range is $22.66–$30.46 per hour, depending on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. The position is non-exempt and hourly.
