CIVIL ENGINEER II - Range 16E / AMEA
About The Position
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA. The Project Engineer position designs and prepares plans and construction contract documents for MOA street, drainage, site, and water quality projects, utilizing AutoCAD and recognized design criteria. Work includes scoping; planning; design; and preparation of construction documents (including drawings specifications, bid proposals, and detailed estimates of probable construction costs) for new or upgraded MOA street, trail, drainage, site, and water quality improvements or projects. Position responsibility includes detailed research of existing conditions, site analysis, design study, public process, in addition to the detailed design and preparation of construction documents including placing a professional engineering stamp on reports and final construction documents. Oversees and coordinates all aspects of design, such as survey, soils, public information, permitting, traffic, lighting, impacts to utilities, hydraulic calculations, right-of-way and easement requirements, and assistance with acquisition, cost estimating, bidding, liaison during construction, and resolving project impacts on adjacent properties. Performs soil mechanics analysis, hydrology studies, hydraulics studies, materials analysis, implement applicable regulations and guidelines, and incorporate life/safety solutions including, but not limited to, evaluation of sight distances on streets, sight triangles, and ADA design guidelines. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Architectural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geomatics, or a closely related discipline and four ( 4 ) years of professional engineering or land surveying experience.
- OR Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geomatics, or a closely related discipline and six ( 6 ) years of professional engineering or land surveying experience.
- Must possess and/or obtain: Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
- Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
- Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of Alaska within six (6) months of hire.
- All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.

- Five percent (5%) additional professional certification pay with a valid State of Alaska Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees.
