About The Position

The Northville District Library is seeking an enthusiastic, customer-focused individual to join our Circulation Services team in a part-time role. This position involves working 21 hours per week, including some weekends and evenings, and is a union position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with Windows OS and common office equipment is preferred.
  • Experience with cash registers and credit card terminals is a plus.
  • Learn quickly and accurately while strictly following instructions and exercising sound judgment.
  • Prioritize tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment to meet daily operational needs.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with a strong passion for helping and serving the public.
  • Communicate clearly and proactively seek assistance to resolve patron inquiries or handle conflicts professionally.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time and the ability to bend, reach, stoop, or crouch.
  • Must have the ability to lift and move library supplies or media materials weighing up to 40 pounds and frequently push or pull loaded book carts throughout the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver positive, welcoming, and professional service to the public at the Circulation Desk.
  • Answer incoming calls and accurately direct visitors and callers to the appropriate public service desks.
  • Check library materials in and out efficiently using the integrated library system.
  • Issue new library cards and maintain patron accounts in accordance with library policy.
  • Handle monetary transactions with accuracy.
  • Monitor incoming materials for damage or missing pieces, taking appropriate action to update item status.
  • Process incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan materials.
  • Sort and distribute daily delivery items.
  • Assist with database maintenance and contribute to special departmental projects.
  • Perform other related duties and administrative tasks as assigned.
