About The Position

Rocky River Public Library is seeking a dynamic, customer-focused Circulation Assistant to join our team on a part-time basis. The Circulation Assistant will help maintain flow of materials received from sort room and delivery system to the public floor. They are also responsible for providing courteous and reliable customer service to patrons. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must be available nights and weekends.
  • Ability to use library technology systems including personal computer, software programs and job-related equipment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate judgment in handling information and records.
  • Ability to work independently with general direction.
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 35 pounds and push/pull cart loaded up to 150 pounds.
  • Ability to reach overhead and stoop to floor level.
  • Operate standard business office equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System is preferred.
  • Travel is required occasionally to attend off-site training sessions and/or meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct customer service functions by checking items in and out for patrons, processing renewals, locating items placed on hold and managing patron accounts across the counter, through the drive-up window and by phone.
  • Provides front line support to patrons by answering phones / directing calls and directing inquiries to the appropriate responsible department.
  • Maintains regular patron contact by providing guidance, answering common questions and referring patron inquiries not related to Circulation to the appropriate department.
  • Assists in resolving patron issues.
  • Maintains proper flow of materials by processing items received through delivery system, by packing and shipping items to other libraries and unpacking and processing items received from other libraries.
  • Responsible for cash, check, and credit card transactions for library fees.
  • Flags materials for repair, mending, or processing.
  • Sorts and stages materials to be shelved.
  • Accurately and efficiently shelves items.
  • Shifts significant portions of collections to make space where needed.
  • Shelf reads assigned materials to keep them in proper order.
  • Retrieves items from off-floor storage area as requested.
  • Assists staff with shelf and display maintenance.
  • Works at the greeter’s desk assisting patrons, answering multi-line phone, and screening passport documents for potential passport applications.
  • Assists in basic room maintenance such as ensuring supplies are stocked, furniture and other movable objects are in place, litter is cleared, and Building Services tickets are opened as needed to address issues requiring their assistance.
  • Interacts regularly with library staff, patrons and the general public.
  • Works with manager to set annual performance goals and objectives that support the Library’s core values.
  • Participates in Library teams, meetings, in-service training, workshops, and conferences.
  • Maintains knowledge of library profession by attending training and workshops, reviews professional publications, and establishing personal networks.
  • Maintains paper and digital records/files for respective area.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities and performs special projects as needed or directed.
