About The Position

This position is for a student worker in the CHSS Student Worker EPIC Lab, funded through the Federal Work-Study Community Service Learning Program (FWS-CSLP). The role involves assisting with various tasks in a vivarium setting, including animal care, data logging, and team collaboration. The student will also be responsible for maintaining equipment and demonstrating strong communication and computer skills. Grand Canyon University is committed to a student-first policy, requiring applicants to be enrolled full-time, maintain a specific GPA, and be in good academic and financial standing.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient typing skills
  • Comfortable working in a professional environment with all levels of staff and faculty
  • Service oriented
  • Comfortable with GCU’s campus and departments to direct guests, students and staff
  • Prior computer knowledge and ability to copy, scan and fax documents
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Self-motivated with a desire to learn and serve
  • Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s program or Master’s program
  • Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student
  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University

Responsibilities

  • Assist in weekly cage cleaning
  • Weigh rats weekly and maintain weight log
  • Be present for testing sessions Monday – Saturday, 11:00 – 3:00 as needed
  • Maintain testing log and video database
  • Be present for weekly meet ups with vivarium leadership team
  • Be present for weekly lab meeting with entire team
  • Monitor and communicate with vivarium coordinator regarding PPE/food/bedding orders
