About The Position

The Choir Director will be responsible for the YHS Vocal Music Program, starting in the 9th grade and building each year through the 12th grade. This role involves the overall teaching, business, and operations of the program. The director will serve as a leader in the Yukon High School vocal music program (grades 9-12), fostering continuity, staff development, and student growth with an emphasis on the business operations of the high school program. Responsibilities include coordinating fundraising, managing finances, maintaining inventory, planning for equipment, scheduling maintenance for uniforms and equipment, facilitating student and staff travel, participating in Professional Learning Communities, planning and implementing instructional strategies, supervising students in out-of-classroom activities, promoting positive student behavior, and coordinating the YHS Musical. Additionally, the director will establish performance and academic requirements, organize tryouts, evaluate and teach vocal music students, and comply with all relevant policies and guidelines.

Requirements

  • Standard teaching certificate
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Sustained, successful experience as a vocal music director or assistant director
  • Knowledge of OSSAA policies and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal skills, to include written communication, verbal communication, organization, and conflict resolution skills
  • Organizational skills, basic mathematical skills, basic computer skills, and communication skills are an essential part of this job
  • Must have expertise in promoting the musical development of vocal music students
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and reliable transportation

  • Previous program/classroom experience preferred
  • CDL/School Bus License preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a leader in the Yukon High School vocal music program, grades 9-12, to foster continuity, staff development, and student growth with an emphasis on the overall business operations of the high school program
  • Coordinate all aspects of fiscally responsible fundraising activities
  • Facilitate the financial operations of the YHS Vocal Music Program, to include responsible fiscal management; maintain accurate records of all receipts, deposits, and expenditures
  • Maintains current inventory of all capital assets associated with the program; provides vision and direction in the planning process to secure additional equipment and supplies through bond issues, fundraising, grants, and donations
  • Establishes an effective and routine schedule of maintenance for refreshing all choir uniforms and any equipment
  • Facilitate all travel for YHS Vocal Music students and staff, to include administrator and board approval as needed, lodging, transportation, meals, and supervision; maintain consistent communication and positive working relationship with YPS Transportation Department representatives
  • Actively participates in a Professional Learning Community that supports horizontal and vertical alignment of a guaranteed and viable curriculum and experiences in all aspects of the Vocal Music program
  • Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of all students
  • Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as scheduled, such as concerts, bus rides, contests, and clinics
  • Promotes positive student behavior in all environments
  • Coordinate and direct the YHS Musical in conjunction with other program directors and teachers
  • Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in practices and contests
  • Organizes and conducts tryouts for the program; informs administration and participants of final selections
  • Evaluate, place, and teach vocal music students with an emphasis on student and program success
  • Complies with local, state and federal policies and guidelines; complies with the policies and procedures of OSSAA and other governing bodies in the field of music
