Choir Director
About The Position
The Choir Director is responsible for the coordinating and organization of the Choral program and to provide an effective program of experience for Midland Christian music students. This role reports directly to both the President and the Secondary Principals. The position is classified as Exempt. Essential functions include instruction and conducting, curriculum and repertoire development, logistics and administration, student growth, and community engagement. The director will manage various choir groups from 4th grade through high school, including beginner and advanced levels, and potentially an auditioned show-choir. The role also involves planning competition travel, tours, festivals, and extracurricular activities, and collaborating with other staff on school musicals or performances.

Responsibilities
- Coordinate and organize the Choral program
- Provide an effective program of experience for Midland Christian music students
- Direct rehearsals
- Teach proper vocal technique, rhythm, pitch, and harmony
- Conduct choir members in performances
- Develop lesson plans aligned with state music standards

- Prepare for school events, competitions, and community performances, potentially including, but not limited to Grandparents Day, Veteran’s Day, Fall Concert, Christmas Concert, Spring Concert, TMEA All-Region / All-State, TAPPS Solo, Small Ensemble, Medium, and Large Ensemble competitions, the Spring Musical Production, and end of year concert/banquet
- Direct the One-Act Play in the Fall (optional for next year)
- Direct all school choirs and manage rehearsals
- Ensure compliance with school board policy and state education rules
- Plan competition travel, tours, festivals, and extracurricular activities
- Collaborate with other staff on school musicals or performances
- Direct 4th Grade Choir (Fall Semester Only) for five homerooms, meeting once per week
- Direct 5th Grade Choir, meeting 3 days per week
- Direct Middle School Choirs (6th Grade (Beginner) Girls Choir, 7th & 8th Grade (Advanced) Girls Choir, Middle school boys choir)
- Direct High School Choir(s), which can be divided into multiple choirs (Mixed, Treble, Tenor-Bass) for large, medium, and small ensembles
- Implement an auditioned show-choir (at director's discretion)
- Determine participation in TMEA All-Region/All-State Choir competition (at director's discretion)
- Determine participation in TAPPS Solo, Small, Medium, and Large ensemble competitions
